Private Fishing Charter in Cancun

• Hotel pick up is not included but it is easy to get to the Marina as it is right in the Cancun hotel zone. Just take a taxi or bus to Marina Chac Chi km 3.2.

• Bring a hat, sunglasses, sun block and some money (for souvenirs, box lunch and tips)

How many people can go on the boat?

It depends on the boat. You will notice above the price of each boat the maximum number of passengers that can accommodate.

Do you have English speaking captains?

Our captains and crew speak at least “fishing English.” The language will not be a problem.

Do the boats have a bathroom on board?

Yes. All our boats do. 

Do I need to bring food?

Food is not provided on any of the fishing trips.
We recommend that if you want food request a box lunch at the time you make your reservation. It will be ready at the Marina and you pay for it upon check in.

Do I need to bring more beer and liquor?

The price includes only 3 beers per person. It is not an “Open Bar.” Also liquor is not included but you are welcomed to bring it. The price also includes 2 bottles of water and 2 sodas per person.

If you want more beer we recommend you bring it with you or request it, you can get as many as you want for an extra fee. 

The transportation from the Marina will not stop for beer and/or sandwiches so we recommend you to have it upon pick up.

Will I get seasick?

Seasickness depends on the individual and the conditions of the sea the day you go fishing. We recommend that if you do not know if you get seasick, take a commercial motion sickness medication or use the wrist bands or patches that help you prevent seasickness problems.

Does the boat  include Safety equipment?

Each boat counts with a First Aid kit and life savers for each passenger on board. Also each boat includes Rescue equipment, example: Radio VHS, flare, and Ring lifesavers. 

Do you have Snorkel equipment on board?

Yes. Make sure to ask for it at the time of your reservation. 

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE FISHING

Do you do trolling or bottom fishing?

When you charter the boat you decide. We normally recommend a combination of the two. So if trolling is slow we pull up on the reef and let you go for groupers and snappers. However, on Share Fishing Trips the captain decides depending on weather conditions, species of fish available and how many people is on the boat. Most of the time we do both.

We want to catch sailfish and/or Marlin. What do you recommend?

First look at the fishing calendar and come when the Sailfish or Marlins are here.

Second, Charter the boat for at least 6 hrs or even take an 8 hour charter. You enhance your chances.

Third, tell the captain at check in that your main interest is billfish.

How much travel time, non-fishing time, is there?

The fishing grounds are about 45 to 60 minutes from the dock. Going for Sailfish or Marlin may require 90 minutes to reach the fishing area. 

How is the time calculated on a 4, 6, 8 hour trip?

The hours of your fishing trip are calculated from “dock to dock.” In other words, a 4 hour trip is “4 hours from the time you leave the dock until you return to the dock”. Same for the 6 and 8 hour trip. Travel time to the fishing grounds is part of your “trip time”.

What kind of bait do you use?

We use ballyhoo, mullet, and lures. We will vary the baits depending on the fish available at the particular time of year you go.

Do you catch and release?

Game fish like sailfish and marlin are released. If you want to mount a fish, then those fish are brought in so we can send them off to be mounted. Other species like Grouper, Snaper, Barracuda and Dorado (Mahi-Mahi) are brought to the Marina

I want to mount my catch. Can I do that?

Yes, the staff at the marina will arrange everything for you so that you can mount your fish and have it shipped.

Should I tip at the end of the fishing trip?

Generally a 10% to 15% tip is given if the crew did a good job for you.

What depth would we be fishing? 

Depending on the specie of fish you are trying to catch and whether you are trolling or deep sea fishing, for trolling its (100- 300 FT) and deep sea fishing is (200-400 FT)

What happens to the fish we catch?

All Sailfish and marlin caught are released unless you want to mount them. Then we bring them in and they will be sent away for mounting.

Other species of fish are put in the cooler and brought to the Marina. One fun way to end a day of fishing is to eat your fresh catch. The Marina has the option of cooking the fish for you and your friends and/or family or you can take your catch to your hotel restaurant and have it for that evening’s dinner. We also recommend that you have the restaurant prepare you catch 3 different ways. Then you decide which is your favorite. By the way, your meal will cost about $10-$12 USD per person with side dishes when you bring the fish.

What are the best fish to take to eat?

The best fish for your dinner will be Dorado (Mahi Mahi,) Wahoo, King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel, Snapper, and Grouper. Any of these will make for an unforgettable dinner.

Can I take fish back to the U.S. in an ice chest?

You can but we do not recommend it. Since security has been tightened at all airports worldwide we do not recommend you try to take edible fish back to the U.S. First the airlines no longer accept Styrofoam ice chest, and securing dry ice in Cancun will cost you more time and effort than it is worth. Then you will have delays on arrival in the U.S. while your baggage is checked.
