Celebrating 15 anniversary

This post is dedicate to those of you addicted to adrenaline who are coming to visit Playa del Carmen. One may think that everything here is light fun and relaxation, and you’d be mostly right, but thrill-seekers won’t struggle to find their fix here. Consider it as taking a break from taking a break.

One thing though,  in Playa del Carmen the adrenaline is not at sea level, but below it, or 3,000 meters above and both adventures begin with a jump.

In the Air

The first experience begins with a call or email to Sky Dive Playa. Located in Playa del Carmen between the ferry station and the local airstrip, this sky diving school has over 20 years of experience and all you’ll need for this adventure.

Once you’ve set your mind to this, you’ll be assigned to an instructor who will give you a quick training class lasting around 20 minutes and he’ll help you gear up. You’ll jumping tandem with your instructor, so you don’t have to worry about anything else other than focusing in the experiencie. After the class, you’ll take a short 25 minute flight to your destination: 3,000 meters up in the sky. Now take a deep breath, and jump! 40 seconds of free falling will be followed by 6 to 8 mientes of gliding before returning to the ground, but trust us, the adrenaline will make it feel like a whole hour.

Underwater

This activity is only available to experienced SCUBA divers. If you are yet to become one, this trip is the perfect opportunity to get certified. While this may not be as exciting as the more advanced dive we will be talking about, it will open the door for hundreds of new adventures.

The second experience is in the opposite direction, down.  For those who are ready, every year between the months of November and February, Playa del Carmen is visited by dozens of bull sharks that hang out here for the winter. This gives us the opportunity for a spectacular dive, 30 minutes 25 meters underwater surrounded by these impressive animals.

There are many dive shops in the area that offer this dive so find the one that suits you best. Most of them include an educational session before the dive to learn about the sharks. If you have a waterproof camera bring it with you, you won’t want to miss the opportunity of your life’s best selfie.
